About the Program

Ready to shuffle up and play? Our Kids Magic: The Gathering (MTG) Program gives young players the chance to learn the game, improve their skills, build friendships and enjoy some friendly competition!

Magic: The Gathering is a trading card game where players use decks of spells, creatures and other magical cards to battle their opponents. Players need to plan ahead, make decisions and adapt their strategies as the game unfolds.

Whether your child is brand new to Magic or already has a few games under their belt, our program is a great opportunity to learn, practise and enjoy playing with others. Beginners are welcome, and our staff will be there to help players understand the rules and build their confidence.

Is This Program Right for Your Child?

Our Kids MTG Program is designed for children who are interested in learning and playing Magic: The Gathering in a friendly, organised environment.

Children should be willing to learn the rules, listen to instructions, take turns and treat other players with respect. Magic has plenty of rules and interactions to learn, so patience and a willingness to practise will help players get the most out of the program.

Previous experience isn't required! Players who are new to Magic can learn as they go, while more experienced players can practise their strategies and develop their skills.

Session Information

• Day: Tuesdays

• Time: 4:00–5:00 pm

• Duration: 1 hour per week

• Program length: 8 weeks during the school term

• Dates: 9 February – 30 March 2027

Each session will include organised play, giving children the opportunity to play games, practise their skills and become familiar with playing in a structured event.

Starter Deck and Accessories

When signing up for the program, each child will receive a starter deck to help them get started, along with a deck box and card sleeves to keep their cards protected.

Children will use their decks throughout the program and can make changes as they learn more about the game and discover the strategies they enjoy.

Deck-Building Rules

Players are welcome to modify and improve their decks during the program. However, all decks must follow the Standard format and contain cards that are legal in Standard.

Any cards added to a deck must be legal in the current Standard format. If your child would like to make changes to their deck, our staff can help them check that their cards meet the format requirements.

What to Bring

Please make sure your child brings the following to each session:

• Their Magic: The Gathering deck

• Their deck box

• Any additional cards they would like to use to modify their deck

• A water bottle

We recommend keeping cards in their sleeves and deck box when they aren't being played. This helps keep them safe between games.

Drop-Off and Collection

Parents and guardians are welcome to drop their children off for the duration of the session.

Please ensure children are collected promptly at 5:00 pm at the end of their scheduled session.

Organised Play and Expectations

We want our Kids MTG Program to be a welcoming, inclusive and enjoyable space where everyone can learn and have fun.

During organised play, children are expected to:

• Treat other players and staff with kindness and respect.

• Follow the rules of Magic: The Gathering and listen to staff instructions.

• Play fairly and allow opponents time to make their decisions.

• Look after their own cards and respect other players' cards and belongings.

• Be patient with players who are still learning.

• Keep the gaming area tidy.

Our goal is to help children enjoy playing Magic, develop their skills and become confident playing with others. Winning is fun, but learning, good sportsmanship and having a good time matter too!

If ongoing behaviour issues arise, we may contact parents or guardians to discuss the situation and work towards a solution.

Emergency Contact Information

For your child's safety, please provide the details of a parent or guardian and an emergency contact we can reach during the session.

Please ensure all contact details are current and that the nominated contacts are available if needed. We will use this information when necessary, such as in an emergency or if we need to contact you about your child during a session.

Please also let us know about any relevant medical conditions, allergies or support needs our staff should be aware of to help your child participate safely and comfortably.

Places are limited, so please check availability with us before making your purchase.

Cancellations and Public Holidays

If a scheduled session falls on a public holiday, that session will be cancelled and an additional session will be added to the end of the program to ensure all 8 sessions can be completed.

If the store needs to close or the staff running a session are unable to attend, we will notify parents and guardians as soon as possible and arrange a replacement session where necessary.

Refunds and Missed Sessions

• Store credit only: Tickets are eligible for store credit refunds only. We do not offer cash refunds for ticket purchases.

• Missed sessions: We cannot provide refunds, store credit or replacement sessions for sessions your child misses.

Please check your child's availability before purchasing a ticket.

Changes to Groups and Withdrawals

If your child is unable to continue in the program, please come and have a chat with us so we can discuss the situation and work out the next steps together.

Please note that all program information is subject to change before the term begins. This may include session dates, expectations, activities and other details. We will notify parents and guardians of any changes as soon as possible.
